#335 | CAMPANELLICE

Year is 2020, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Our small objects class tasked us to design food related items meant for shared experiences that we could not.

“We cannot physically toast anymore, this doesn’t sound right, this doesn’t make a sound at all! That was what made a toast, a toast.”

I was determined to find a way to toast even our glasses never met.

The product name is a combination of two italian words: “Campanello” & “Calice” (“Bell” & “Chalice” respectively)

I also need to convey the usage in a simplified manner, thus I’ve made it in the style of Ikea instructions for the added humour.

Item #335 is a wine chaice that contains a bell on on its base.

Its dimensions are 180mm in height and 70mm diameter on it’s widest with the wall thickness averaging to 1.5mm with the intended material type of crystal glass.

Its shape is based off by Ottoman Era candle holders, the tulip shaped tips exaggerated into a wine glass and the base hllowed out to be a bell.

Item #335 can hold a full glass of wine, it’s uniquely shaped silhouette of the tops serves both an omage to the tulip ornaments on the Ottoman Era candleholders and creates a safer splash angle upon flicking the glass for it’s secondary function.

The secondary function is a modified base that has a bell on it; Uplon flicking the glass simillar to a toasting gesture the bell imitates the sound of the assumed partner in drink.

The third function is the upper lip around the bell base, also directly inspired from the candleholder, this lip is there to catch any spills in case the user is too intoxicated to flick it gently.

To use this product you need:

-At least one companion

-Some alcoholic bewerage

-Any means of remote communication

(And a low risk of carrying disease if possible)

!!Do not ,under any circumstance, directly interract with the second user!! If you did, call your local health dispensary if you feel unwell after!!

The product is best enjoyed with at least a meter of distance inbetween.
