Transforming, instantly deployable paper bag for street food.
-
Item #279 is a disposable paper bag meant to rival THE brown paper bag design everyone’s accustomed see being used by street vendors in the same standards of:
-Quality
_Just as strong and cheap.
-Utility
_Two segments for twice as food or two part snacks: From Nachos& Salsa to Chestnuts & Their Shells
_Hold it like an ice cream cone for singular food;
_Rest it on your lap, bike frame or hand on your arm if you can’t hold it;
_Don’t fold it into two at all and use as a hotdog-sized wrapper.
_Handling becomes easier as one pocket always gets smaller as you eat
_Fold it into itself for take-away
-Deployment Speed
_Same as a paper bag: From taking one out of the pile to flicking into the air to filling it up with a serving takes no more than a second as it’s designed for the fast-paced environment street vendors thrive.

In our Design II Course, we were assigned to re-invent a way to eat a street food. I picked chestnuts
As it’s a great warm snack for the winter yet we never know what to do with the shells, usually put them back into the bag, confusing really.
The user experience is similar to holding a wide ice cream cone where it’s split in the middle to fill up one side with chestnuts and the other side with shells.
Alternative uses could be for example nachos on one side and the salsa on the other. It can reast on your leg firmly while sitting, optimal for cinema or hands-free car snacks.
My only objective for this to be just as easily deployed like a paper bag the same way when a street vendor just flicks a flat paper bag in an instant.
I’m glad to say it was a major success. Manufacturing is just pre-creasing the paper 6 times and gluing two opposing edges. I’ve find it so simple and intuitive that I put a tutorial online back then!

Manufacturing
1) Start with paper. A size standard (A4 especially) works the best.
2) Pre-fold the paper by a pattern for it’s function.
3) Fold it into two
4) Place an adhesive strip on the most further-apart edges
5) Join those edges by closing the strip
Use (Average User/Careful/ Both Hands)
6) Take one out from the batch and press it on its spine by holding down both corner flaps
7) Take a hold onto the corner flaps(Optional: Gently bend them sideways as you do it)
8) Fold it outwards to create a cone
9) Fill it with whatever you want, enjoy
(Total time: ~10 seconds)
Use (Street Vendors/Advanced/Single Hand)
6) Take one out from the batch by holding it’s flap corner and firmly shook it once perpendicularly downwards. (this should combine avg. 6-7-8th steps)
7) Slightly squeeze the tapered corners as your pour down the food into one of the pockets with the free hand. Ready for serving
(Total Time: 2 seconds)
